What is the correct base density, after compaction, for a patio project? What about a residential driveway? Is it different? How is everyone else out there measuring density? Can you over compact the base?

Check out this link to ICPI's website.

There is a 3 minute video in section 6 that explains proper compaction and shows different ways the base can be tested for proper compaction. Pedestrian applications should be a minimum 95% standard proctor density and Vehicular should be a minimum 95% modified proctor density.

With the Wacker 1550, or any 5.5Hp packer it is difficult to reach a proctor of 98% on driveways. I make sure the lifts are <2".
