I'm about to lay down the base material for a paver job and I want to use a track type tractor ( Ditch Witch, SK350). This unit has tracts like a catapillar tractor. I will be laying down 2 lifts of about 3" each. I will compact each lift. The question is: will I tear up the first layer with the tracts. I will try to make minimum turns. What is your experience.

Yes, you will tear-up the base much more compared to an all wheel steer machine, such as an A300.

what? a ditchwich.... come on think , rent a bobcat or some other skid loader it will go faster and you will have a more consistant base.beside's you dont want to look like a rookie.

I have used Ditch Witch mini skids on install jobs with limited access. The SK650 works great since it lifts more, heavier and higher. The tracks will mess up the gravel if you turn a lot but so will most other machines. Plan it right and get a straight shot and you will be ok, as I have. You'll look less like a rookie with a mini skid than a wheel barrel and your labor savings will far outweigh the rental costs.
