For those who seal on a regular basis, do you prefer rolling or spraying your sealer?

Last year I rolled about 75,000sq ft solvent based sealer. I am happy with the results but want to tinker with spraying larger areas for more productivity. If you spray what type of sprayers are you using?

Spraying is faster and coverage per gallon is better, but you will have more maintenance issues. The sprayer and all the components need to be approved for solvents, otherwise it won't last one job. Also, if your crew doesn't clean out the sprayer properly at the end of each day, there will be problems. Chapin's 6300 model sprayer is nice, but doesn't come ready for solvent sealers right out of the box.

What steps do you need to make that sprayer ready for spraying solvants. I guess one of those paint type sprayers would "disappear" pretty quick?

Starting with a steel or stainless steel tank, you will need seals (such as viton), hoses, wands and tips that are all approved for use with solvents. Otherwise, things start to melt

Thanks for the info. I am going to get a cheap sprayer like Chapins 1949 to test out spraying. If I like it I am going to want to invest in something more efficient than a pump up type sprayer. Have you ever used a sprayer on a 12V sytem? Even something that can be left trailer mounted with a couple or few hundred feet of hose?

With the Chapin pump ups waht do you do when you are done? Just run xylene through the hose?

I've never tried a 12V system or worked with a trailer set-up. Maybe someone else could answer that. In regards to clean-up, yep, just some some xylene through the system a few times. You can use toluene too, but xylene is easier to get (Home Depot, Lowes, etc).
