Could anyone tell me what is the difference between a Sailor and Soldier Course? Thanks in advance!

When installing a Sailor Course, your pavers are installed with the longest side of the paver abutting the edge. Opposite for Soldier course. For example, hollandstone pavers (4x8): the Sailor course will have the 8" side set against the edge restraint. Typically you'll see either a Soldier course, or a double Sailor course (two rows) to define the edge of pavement. But that's just my take on it

Soldiers march front to back. Sailers stand shoulder to shoulder along the side of the ship.

I always remembered it that way...soldiers march and sailors standing side by side, but the bricklayers would call a flat brick laid in linear fashion a "Stretcher" and one laid flat with the short end out a "Header."
