I get a lot of customers interested in having mailboxes made with wall blocks to match their walls. I have kicked around a few idea's as to the most attractive way to cap a mailbox pillar off. Most of what I see in the area are brick and mortar columns and they are always arched or peaked, but that is less then easy with most wall blocks and the various interlocking systems cutting through the block at some point.

I imagine you could get away with cutting blocks at an angle, or arc but I have a hard time imagining it coming out looking well. I also just figured a regular pillar capstone would be sufficient but I'm prone to think customers won't want the flat top for just a single standing column. Maybe if theres a column on each side of the drive, but I think it'd look cheesy not to have some arch-like finish to it otherwise.

Has anyone played around with mailboxes made out of wall blocks. If so, what looks the most appealing in your opinion? Maybe I just lack imagination on this one. Thanks

I see capstones are the most popular in my area. But I think that is because it's so easy to do, so that's what is recommended. Though topping off the pillar with a light is super easy to do, and it adds a ton to the overall appearance. You'd be surprised at what you can get just by adding a light or two.
*** My big thing now, is going back to my old jobs and installing lights on the soldier courses. A customer of mine called and asked me to put in some lights she bought from the manufacturer. I made about three times what I do on an installation($$ vs. man hours) because it was so easy to do. Once again, it was from Pave Tech...and I thought I knew everything they had.
I know you guys read this; do I get any $$ for my referrals? Or how about a PaverCart on the house!

Everybody around here cape them off with a limestone cap or uses wall units place so they have a slight overhang. Definitly try to throw a light or something decorative on it to spic eit up. Then you can sell lights on the rest of the job since you already have a transformer...
