I have a paver that I need to replace in the middle of a driveway. What is the best way to take it out? Has anyone used the paver extractor? Does anyone have suggestions?

I use a similar tool on a regular basis. Makes life much easier than screwdrivers. If its tough to get out wet the sand around it first and wiggle it strait out.

I used to break the paver to remove it - Now I'm using an extractor. Buy an extractor unless you plan to never remove another paver!!

I usually do the same.......if it's gonna be junk anyways, I take a hammer and chisel to it and just smash it up. Not the easiest or quickest way but it's more fun to smash crap then it is to fiddle for 30 mins and lose my patience sitting in the heat with screwdrivers. Agreed though, extractor tools are a must......and I must get one soon.

An extractor is really helpful when you are removing sealed pavers that you can afford to damage. The pavers don't just pop right out, especially with poly sand, but you can get them out without breaking them.

As was previously mentioned, make sure to saturate the joint sand with water before using the extractor. It makes it a lot easier to pull the paver. Also, it helps if someone can tap the surrounding pavers with a rubber mallet as you are pulling up with the extractor.

Can you use a saws-all to cut out the polymeric to ease paver extraction?

A Milwaukee SDS hammer drill with a chisel point...if you're replacing the paver. Redefines the word fast...
