Do these mats fit all different compactor plates? Or are they limited to certain makes and models? Are they basically just needed for clay brick installation or is there a benefit for all applications?
Probably too many questions at once, but just wanted to know.

The size of the mat fits most (all?) forward tampers, but the design of the exciter housing may make it difficult or impossible drill holes for the mounting bolts. Mats are not just for clay anymore. Almost all of the paver manufacturers today have some textured surface pavers that will "white cap" without protection from the metal plate.

I purchased the Probst mat for my smaller Wacker compactor and it fit allright. I did have to do a little grinding on the reverse side of my compactor plate to allow the bolts for the mat to tighten flush, but it wasn't a huge issue. For the size compactor you would use for OVER set pavers, the standard size of the mat should be fine. If your compactor is reversible however, you might need to do some modification to bolt the back side of the mat as well. It attaches at the front and just sorta drags along under the plate, so reversibles will require some extra attention.
Overall the mats work great keeping any style paver in better condition......not to mention the elimination of that nasty sound of ping'ing your compactor over the paver surface.
