What is the best rugged landscape laser level for putting in patios. Would like to spend less than $500.

I don't think you'll find one under $500 - at least not yet (or at least not a good quality laser level). The price has come down in recent years but I think you still will need to spend $700-$800. I've used them and they're well worth that cost.

I bought one from home depot for around $300-$400 and it does a good job when it feels like working. I am definitely going to upgrade soon.

My wife buys flowers at Home Depot!! and I admit that I buy lumber there (all the other lumber yards are gone thanks to HD). Have you ever taken a close look at the pavers they sell? Anyone who complains about the price of a really high quality paver, or other higher price, better quality products should buy their pavers at HD; that's our future if we keep crying about a few dollars more for the better quality stuff.

I bought a laser for my own small project at my house. Spent $50 (I don't install all the time - give me a break) and it was a piece of crap. The laser wasn't bright enough during the day so I had to go out at night and sight things. That was interesting to say the least.

I too, purchased an inexpensive laser level, that wasn't worth it. I could not see to take measurements during the day. I returned it, and am waiting to get a better (and certainly more expensive) one, such that I can use it during the day.
