Simple question, what are basic tools that you guys would recommend for someone just getting started? I would be employed by a person with all the big stuff ie: the trucks, wheelbarrows, etc.

There's a lot of them to get as you grow, but here's a few that No One should work without:
1- PaverCart - Moving paver with wheelbarrows are for suckers
2- Extractor
3- Adjuster
4- Pounder - Get the real one that will actually compact area's you can't get to with a compactor. The slide hammer gets as much force as a compactor. Anything less, and you'll get callbacks
5-Base Rake.. I use it more than any other tool. Be patient with your base work, and don't use a garden rake. All the fines will just fall to the bottom and you won't get proper compaction.

Though not necessary, marking tools such as the paver scribe and quick draw save me tons of time... to hell with the tape measure and/or rubber hose method. I wish I was given these recommmendations when I started. It would have saved me a load of time!

And a splitter or some diamond saw blades. I've never encountered a project that didn't have cuts. On my own patio project I rented a wet saw and bought some diamond saw blades.

All good suggestions above but don't forget about the "sand pull" for fixing the sand setting bed...absolutely essential. Also get a laser level (I don't know how we worked without it). The list goes on and on...

Your review is excellent.
