I've got 30 Hanover 2x2 slabs that I need to remove and re-install. Not a pedistall system - sand bed on top of aggregate base. I know the vacuum equipment PAVE TECH has would work great but I can't justify the cost for 30 slabs. What else can I use?

If the vacuum is too costly, try the SlabExtractor. A lot cheaper. Great for those smaller jobs.
Good Luck

For only 30 slabs it would take more time to rent one than it would to just pick them up manually.

Job was too small to justify purchase of any tool so we did without. What a pain-in-the-ass. It would've been nice if my supplier had the proper tool for me to use (rent)...vacuum or whatever...Next time I'll know better.

When you have another job like this come up, talk to your dealer first. He may be willing to purchase the equipment if he knows you are going to rent it, then they have it available for future rentals (either for you or other contractors in your area). That worked when a buddy of mine needed a 20" block saw, the rental house was just waiting for a customer to request one and there was enough leadtime to get it in.

I did a project last fall using Nava Stone slabs and found myself in your same problem. I was able to pick up a Tong style grabber/remover tool from my local supplier for under $50 bucks. It was pretty primitive compared to what Probst puts out, but the cost reflected it's quality. Regardless, it got the job done and the tool works great for anything in the 16-24" range. I couldn't even give you a brand name, it's simply a painted black tool I found on the shelf. The supplier I bought it from is Chicopee Mason Supply in Chicopee,Ma. if anyone ever wanted to try to track one down. Bummer you had to endure it the hard way. Best of luck to everyone this coming season!
