A contractor called in for information to help him put his bid together on a project that has SandLOCK specified to be used with pea gravel. He had read our detail suggesting testing different mix ratios when using SandLOCK for applications other than sand joints but needed to find a supplier for pricing.
We asked for detail on the project.
It is specified to spread a 3 inch depth of pea gravel mixed with SandLOCK over a roof top. The objective is to provide a firm surface that could hold up to foot traffic and also allow water to pass through to the drainage system. The surface is up to 20 feet wide and the pea gravel all uniform round sized granulations.
ANSWER - We do not recommend SandLOCK for this application.
We explained that SandLOCK's binding nature is excellent for sand joints in flexible paver pavements but will not work in this project because of the depth, width of the area and that there would be no "fines" in the pea gravel.
